After the Holidays, it can be easy to get lost in all of the gatherings and festivities. After all, that’s the fun part! But when January rolls around, and we’re left with tighter pants, we might look back with a few food regrets. It’s easy to get a little out of control with all of the heavy appetizers, rich dishes we only indulge in once a year, mugs of cocoa, and glasses of wine. Drink plenty of water

Sometimes people can confuse hunger with thirst, and if you’re even the slightest dehydrated, you might grab some chips and dip because your body feels a little hollow. Don’t confuse this feeling with hunger this year. Take the time to drink plenty of water before grazing the snack table, and if you know that you’re hydrated but still feel hungry, then you can make yourself a plate so you know exactly how much you’ve had.

Contribute a healthier dish at potlucks

Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of delicious and filling foods that are actually very healthy. When you’re going to a potluck or making dinner for a large group of people, work to incorporate more vegetables and low-calorie ingredients into your recipes. It will probably surprise you how many people don’t even notice they’re eating something that’s good for their waistline.

In fact, many people will even flock to your dish because they didn’t realize that their body was craving those vitamins that are found in healthier choices. The bonus is, when people cook, we tend to snack on the food we’re preparing. So you’ll be making healthier choices before and after you’ve had your gathering.

Look beyond the food and drinks for fun

It can seem that the holidays are all about the food and cocktails, but there is a lot more you can be doing that you think. You can get some old friends together for a charity walk, volunteer at a local shelter or church, or gather all of the kids in your family to make crafts for their parents. When you fill all of your time with food and sugary beverages, you’ll miss the true spirit of this time of year. And you’ll have a tough time getting back in the swing of things for January.
