For Permanent Hair Removal

Electrolysis is an FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal that employs two different types of electrical current, delivered through a very fine probe inserted into the hair follicle.  The current creates heat and a chemical change in the base of the follicle, which disables the growth mechanism of the root.  The treated hair is then removed after a few minutes.

Electrolysis offers permanent hair removal.

What areas can be treated? Electrolysis can be performed safely for hair removal on the upper lip, chin, jawline, brows, underarms, bikini line, abdomen, fingers, toes, legs, and back.  It works on any skin color and can be used to treat both light and dark hair. How many treatments will be needed? It varies from person to person, depending on the methods of hair removal used previously, medications taken, current state of health, hormones, and genetics. Most patients will need to have treatment every 2 weeks to start clearing the area.  Eventually, longer treatment intervals will occur, as regrowth will become slow and sparse. What does electrolysis feel like? Pain sensitivity varies from person to person as well.  Most patients report a slight stinging sensation.  The amount of current used, the intensity, and type of current all have a bearing on discomfort experienced, but the treatment is well tolerated. How is electrolysis performed? Your technician will insert a very fine, sterile probe into an individual hair follicle.  Current will be delivered for several seconds to that particular follicle, then the technician will move on to treat the next follicle.  After treating a small area, the hairs will be epilated (removed). When treated properly, the hairs should slide out easily from the follicle.

After Electrolysis Treatment

Are there any side effects? Immediately after electrolysis treatment, the area may be slight red and puffy.  It is recommended that the patient keep antibiotic ointment on the treated area(s) for at least 24 hours afterward.  Cold compresses can be used to reduce puffiness and SPF is always recommended to avoid pigmentation issues from sun exposure.
